Dance4Healing
How do we get cancer patients to dance as part of their chemotherapy treatment?
When cancer patients are undergoing chemotherapy, they often feel too self-conscious or too weak to go outside. Research has shown that creative arts therapy has positive effects on the healing process. Dance4Healing is a social enterprise inspired by the founder's own journey against stage IV cancer. It is a telehealth platform connecting dance teachers to patients to help alleviate mental and physical pain and improve quality of life. The platform uses AI and behavior design to recommend personalized music and dance, buddies and groups based on real-time emotion and health data.

As a Community Manager, I communicate with cancer patients, dance teachers and filmmakers on a regular basis to make sure that weekly classes, both in-person and virtual, run smoothly, and that everyone is satisfied with the program.
Of course, we can't read people's minds, so we have to distribute a bunch of surveys to get everyone's feedback so that we can use it to improve our current and future dance programs.
We have patients fill out weekly surveys before coming to class each Saturday. This helps us keep track of their dancing habits and their physical and mental well-being throughout the program.

Here's an example of one of the weekly surveys we send out to our patients. This helps us keep track of each participant in our program, and provides direct feedback on our class and virtual dance platform.
Designing our Virtual Dance Platform
This mockup was as part of the Health 2.0 Code-a-Thon 2014, when I first discovered Dance4Healing. These screens explore the interaction of a user creating an account on our platform through attending a class with a dance buddy. I created these mockups using UXPin, InVision and Illustrator to help users envision the dance experience.
